Jag stötte på ett problem idag som i slutändan visade sig vara väldigt enkelt, men som i början vållade lite huvudbry eftersom symtomen var lite udda.
Problembeskrivningen var:
Kan inte spara Excel-filer till Sharepoint. Word och andra filer funkar bra.
Problemet var lätt att återskapa, jag klickade på en Excel-fil i ShaePoint men lyckades sedan inte spara den direkt från Excel. Det fungerade dock att spara en lokal kopia och ladda upp filen via webbgränssnittet.
Detta ledde till en del grottande med Excel Services och annat i Central Administration, men jag hittade inte något problem där.
I applikationsloggen hittade jag följande meddelande:

Jag började googla på “The service ’/_vti_bin/cellstorage.https.svc’ cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation” som ledde till diverse förslag som handlade om att avsnittet behaviorConfiguration i web.config skulle vara saknat. Men det var inte mitt problem.
Till sist läste jag meddelandet två gånger till (långsamt) och då ser jag att problemet står i klartext: Det är för lite ledigt RAM-minne i servern (mindre än 5%). Jag tittade i performance monitor och visst: Jag låg på 98% minnesutnyttjande. Det var ett klassiskt fall av att SQL-servern hade ätit upp allt tillgängligt RAM-minne.
